This museum was recommended by locals every bit well as found in the North Carolina Company'southward Guide, and I'm glad we stopped here. Information technology took less than an hour for my hubby and I to get through. It is a nice petty museum with a unique story to tell.

Having worked at a museum for 15 years, I tin appreciate what all goes into the exhibiting, labeling, and rotating of artifacts, also as the best use of space and general traffic flow. A few things that caught my eye correct away were:
    1. The design of the building - the side facing the street looks similar the main frame of a wooden ship.
ii. Starting time-order Fresnel lens - this is the largest order of lens Fresnel fabricated for lighthouses, and the commencement 1 I've been this close to. It's story of survival is pretty incredible.
three. Unique showroom - how citizens used goods scavenged from shipwrecks including books, tables, and fifty-fifty sewing machines.
    4. Panels and displays discussing what all is involved in conservation, documentation, archaeological data, stabilization, preservation, storage,
and displaying of an artifact - the "then what" factors of finding anything from a previous time period or culture and the basic reason museums exist. Every museum should have this type of exhibit - BRAVO! And the story of Blackbeard's ship Queen Anne's Revenge makes the point - Arrrr! Well washed, Matey!
five. Glass wall assuasive visitors to view the conservation lab and what happens earlier an artifact is put in a museum showroom. People frequently do not realize that merely a small percentage of a museum's artifacts are on display at whatever given time - again BRAVO!

Some things seemed out of place to me, such as:
    1. All the space dedicated to the development of diving equipment; I could understand having some diving gear and talking about scavenging shipwrecks, but going into the history and displaying all the different animate apparatus didn't quite fit in with the "mission" of shipwrecks.
    2. The panel on when Hatteras Village received electricity
    3. The exhibit on commercial fishing
These seemed like odd "oh by the style" topics, as well far distantly related to shipwrecks for the space they were given.

  • If you're looking for a gift/specialty store that sells quality items at remarkably affordable prices, this is the place. Everything nevertheless has that beachy, OBX vibe but with a more than artistic flair. We not but found some beautiful items for ourselves but managed to choice up some gifts for family. I especially loved their handmade, newspaper Christmas ornaments. The owners were friendly and even dove into their stockroom to run across if they could notice more options for the items we liked the most. I'm wishing today I'd bought a few things I left behind. Would definitely return if I detect myself on Hatteras again.

  • They have a lilliputian bit of everything; groceries, local made souvenirs, t-shirts and sweatshirts. The owners are usually there and very nice people. The prices may be a little college but they have skilful sales, peculiarly afterward the tourist season. We've stopped there numerous times and accept always found what we needed.

Visited on a cloudy day for something unlike. Items sold in the store were really attractive and non like things I saw in other stores. I did a mosaic. Nice that the price provided for the base was all inclusive. Staff was really helpful. Didn't practise the ceramic painting but there was a skillful option of pieces to cull from. I
likely practice that on my side by side trip
